Overall the gameplay is very responsive, you always feel in control and save points are graciously spread. You play as a robot, you have typical weapons that can be upgraded, you fight strange beings from another world, and you also take on immense bosses that test your strength and stamina. MetroidvaniaĪs mentioned above, the game is heavily inspired by games like Metroid for the NES. And yes, there are multiple endings to this story. The story is dark, sometimes funny and overall written well enough that you will want to stay till the end. Throughout the adventure you learn that Mimigas can become rabid by eating red flowers, and you also meet a second robot called Curly Brace. You are helpless at that time but decide to help the villagers to stop what the Doctor is doing.Īn epic adventure unveils as you discover that you are actually a robot on that island meant to destroy an evil force. I’m hoping this article will showcase how this indie game from 2004 is still a great game in 2017 and why it will work very well on the Nintendo Switch console. In addition to the pixel-art graphics of the original there will be an HD mode you can switch on as was the case on the Wii and 3DS ports. If you haven’t heard of it, it is a classic 2D platformer inspired by the likes of Metroidvania, and it is a great addition to the Nintendo Switch lineup due to its mobile friendly appeal, retro graphics and surprisingly deep and rewarding story-line. The Nintendo Switch has been blessed with another indie classic coming to the US and possibly other countries in June called Cave Story (洞窟物語 – Dōkutsu Monogatari).
